If you haven’t visited our Brighton Park neighborhood in Nexton, you’re in for a treat. Nexton is a new home development in Summerville, South Carolina at the crossroads of I-26 and 17A – right in the middle of one of Charleston’s most exciting areas of growth.
Nexton is just five minutes from historic Summerville, a town that was founded in the early 1700s. Summerville once served as a breezy, refreshing summer getaway for Charlestonians looking to escape their responsibilities (and the heat and mosquitos) in June, July, and August. Nexton was built in the same spirit, except it’s meant for year-round living. The master plan is meant to celebrate nature, and to get residents playing, working, and socializing outside. In fact, one of the foundations of this community is healthy living. Half of the area is devoted to parks, each one unique, and a pavilion that makes an excellent spot for outdoor yoga classes.
Nexton is devoted to its parks and maintains its own nursery, so there is always a supply of mature, locally grown trees. Even though the community is new, it feels established.
There’s also a hip, contemporary swim club and a trail network that winds through the entire property. The neighborhood is so devoted to fitness that they founded the wildly popular Cocoa Cup 5k. Locals love this run because it’s flat, fast, everybody gets a plush Nike hoodie, and there’s a decadent cocoa bar at the finish.
In about 35 minutes you can be in downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant or West Ashley. In under an hour you can hit the beach at Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, or Folly Beach. However, you won’t have to go far to enjoy shopping, restaurants or other conveniences: Nexton Square is a 140,000 square-foot town center that is home to more than 40 restaurants and retailers.
Restaurants include Halls Chophouse, Taco Boy, Fuji Sushi, and Chatime Coffee and Ice Cream Café. The Carolina Ale House is already a favorite gathering spot, as is Starbucks. A Harris Teeter is planned to anchor the center, enabling residents to walk, bike or golf cart for groceries.
The town hall also has public event spaces so locals can enjoy outdoor movie nights and other social activities. Other planned developments are a movie theater, childcare, a Residence Inn by Marriott, and a medical campus with primary care, lab, urgent care, and specialty care services. The best part? Everything is connected by biking or walking trails.
For small business owners, Nexton provides a unique opportunity: Affordable office space within walking or biking distance of home, shopping, groceries, and restaurants. Nexton was South Carolina’s first gigabit community – which means Internet services are lightning fast and reliable.
Of course, Nexton is passionate about ensuring young residents have access to high-quality education. Nexton Elementary opened in 2015 and earned the Rookie School of the Year award from the South Carolina PTA. It also won achievement awards from MUSC / Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness, and is the home of the region’s only Common Sense Digital Leadership School.
Nexton was designed to preserve the historic country getaway feeling with in-town style and convenience. New Saussy Burbank homes have a modern farmhouse-chic aesthetic with features such as extensive wrap porches, open floor plans, contemporary fixtures, and finishes. Home sizes range from 1368 square feet to 2199 square feet, and prices begin in the mid $200s.
When you stop by our model home, notice our award-winning décor. We know that when you buy a new home, most people don’t have the budget to buy all new furniture and décor. We charged our interior design team with repurposing furniture and other items to create a contemporary farmhouse feel on a budget. They did such a great job that they won an award from the Carolinas Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers!
Also be sure to check out the gorgeous kitchen garden, created and maintained by Rita Bachman of Rita’s Roots. Rita is a local legend, and residents love stopping by to ask questions (and nibble fresh veggies) while she’s tending the plants. Rita provides a unique service for the Lowcountry and many Nexton families: Total kitchen garden design and installation.
Rita and her crew will design and build raised beds for your space, install them along with special veggie blend compost and topsoil, and optional drip irrigation systems that run on timers. Rita can help you incorporate fruit trees, berry bushes, vegetable and herb plots, butterfly and bee gardens, and cutting gardens. Once your garden is installed, Rita and her team will remind you when to plant, fertilize, water, and everything else required for a lush, green, edible garden.
If you don’t have time to tend your garden, Rita’s team will do it for you – and they’ll even place your harvest right on your doorstep.
There are so many good things going on in Nexton. Stop by our model home and say hello to Amy and Glen, see the garden and say hey to Rita, and take time to wander the trails that run through the parks. You’ll be glad you did.
